The Cadence® UltraLink D2D PHY IP is a high-performance, low-latency PHY for die-to-die connectivity targeted at the AI/ML, 5G, cloud computing, and networking markets. The UltraLink D2D PHY IP is an enabling technology for D2D and system-in-package (SiP) applications, which enable SoC providers to deliver more customized solutions that offer higher performance and yields while also shortening development cycles and reducing costs through greater IP reuse.

Market Requirements

After years of steady SoC and ASIC aggregation to pack more functionality into a monolithic single die, the semiconductor industry can no longer meet growing performance demands. In the face of power, performance, and area (PPA) constraints and reticle limits, and with the cost of production at advanced nodes skyrocketing, there is renewed interest in a disaggregated approach to chip development. Segmenting a single die into smaller functional die, and packaging the resulting D2Ds in various combinations, offers a number of benefits. At the same time, delivering high bandwidth over a small die edge is a challenge for these high-performance SiP applications. As a result, beachfront density, or the amount of data you can transfer without wasting area, has become a key consideration.
